1. Introduction
Base Month ("Base Month," "we," "us," or "our") is a household organizer app that helps families and households manage tasks, budgets, calendars, health tracking, inventory, and messaging in one place. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Base Month, you agree to this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information — your name, email address, password (stored hashed), and any profile details you provide.
- Content you create — tasks, board items, budget and expense entries, invoices, calendar events, notes, inventory items, messages, and anything else you enter while using the app.
- Health & activity data — if you choose to connect Apple Health or a Fitbit, the workout and activity data you authorize Apple or Google to share with Base Month (see "Health Data" below).
- Household data — information about children or other household members that a parent or guardian chooses to add, such as a child's name, tracker entries about them (sleep, naps, diapers, meals, medication, activities and any photos attached), custody schedules, and tasks, lists or rewards assigned to them. This is always entered and managed by an adult account holder, never collected directly from a child (see "Children's Privacy" below).
- Usage & device information — general app usage, device type, and app version, used to fix bugs and improve the app.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- provide and operate the app's features (board, budget, calendar, tracker, inventory, messages, rewards);
- calculate things like recurring bills, goal progress, and upcoming due dates;
- send notifications you've opted into, such as reminders and messages;
- respond to your support requests; and
- maintain and improve the security and reliability of the app.
4. Health Data (Apple Health & Fitbit)
If you choose to connect Apple Health, Base Month reads only the specific data types you authorize (such as workouts, daily step counts and resting heart rate) in order to power your Tracker goals and dashboard progress. Health data you sync is used exclusively to provide that feature to you — it is never sold, never used for advertising, and is not shared with anyone outside your own account, except that if you assign a shared goal to another household member, only the resulting aggregate progress number (for example, "3.2 hours this week") is visible to them — never your underlying raw entries. You can disconnect Apple Health at any time from your device's Health app settings.
If you choose to connect a Fitbit, you sign in with the Google account your Fitbit is linked to and allow Base Month read-only access to your activity and fitness data, and your heart rate measurements, through Google's Health API. Base Month uses that access only to import your workouts (type, date, time, duration and average heart rate) as Exercise entries, and your daily step totals and resting heart rate as Steps entries, in your Tracker; it can't change anything in your Fitbit or Google account. The same protections as above apply: your Fitbit data is never sold, never used for advertising, and only aggregate goal progress is ever shown to household members you share a goal with. You can disconnect at any time with "Disconnect Fitbit" in the Tracker, which also revokes Base Month's access in your Google account; workouts already imported stay in your Tracker until you delete them. Base Month's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Household & Family Sharing
Base Month is built around households: when you invite a co-parent or family member, they can see the specific kids, tasks, budgets, or tracker data you choose to share with them. Personal ("Me") entries you log for yourself, like your own tracker entries, stay private to you unless you explicitly assign them to a shared goal, as described above. You control who you invite, and you can remove a co-parent's access at any time from your Account page.
6. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of service providers to run Base Month, including cloud hosting and database providers that store your data, Apple's HealthKit framework (only if you connect it), and Google's Health API for Fitbit data (only if you connect a Fitbit). On basemonth.com we also use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use; it records usage information such as pages viewed, device and browser type, and approximate location, never the contents of your boards, budgets, tracker or other data. We do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not use advertising networks.
7. Cookies & Local Storage
Our web app uses essential local storage — for example, to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. Our mobile app stores a small amount of data locally on your device for the same reason. On basemonth.com, Google Analytics also sets cookies to count visits; it isn't used in the mobile app. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.
8. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We share your information only:
- with household members you've explicitly invited, and only to the extent you've shared with them;
- with service providers who help us run the app, who are required to protect your data;
- if required by law; or
- if Base Month is involved in a merger or acquisition, in which case we'll notify you.
We never sell your personal information.
9. Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain it for legal reasons or where it exists in routine backups, which are cycled out over time.
10. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately.
11. Your Privacy Choices
You can access, update, or delete most of your information directly from the app. You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account entirely, through our support page.
12. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & GDPR)
Base Month is not directed at children. It's made for parents and guardians: accounts are for adults only (see our Terms of Service), children don't sign in or use the app themselves, and we don't knowingly collect information directly from children under 13 — or from any child.
Because Base Month helps run a family, it does hold information about children that a parent or guardian chooses to enter — for example a child's name, tracker entries such as sleep, naps, diapers, meals and medication, photos attached to those entries, custody schedules, and tasks, lists or rewards assigned to them. The parent or guardian who enters this information is the one providing it and is responsible for it, and the household's account holder stays in control of it at all times.
We treat children's information with extra care:
- it is used only to provide Base Month's features to the family — for example the tracker, sleep forecasts and nap reminders, which are worked out from the family's own entries;
- it is never sold, never used for advertising, and never used to build a profile of a child;
- it is visible only to the account holder and the co-parents or family members they invite; and
- a parent or guardian can view, edit or delete it at any time in the app, and deleting a child or the whole account removes their information as described in "Data Retention" above.
The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the children's provisions of the EU and UK GDPR are aimed at services that collect personal information from children themselves. Since Base Month is used only by adults and children never provide information to us directly, no separate parental consent form is needed — the parent or guardian using the app is the one deciding what to record. If you believe a child has created an account or given us information directly, contact us through our support page and we'll delete it.
Base Month is currently free. If a paid subscription is introduced later, it will be purchased and managed only by the adult account holder, never by a child.
13. Testing Mode & Future Pricing
Base Month is currently in testing/beta and is free to use — there is no paid subscription at this time. We plan to introduce an optional monthly subscription in the future. If and when we do, we'll notify existing users in advance, and no charge will be applied without clear notice beforehand.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know within the app before they take effect. Continued use of Base Month after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
